Working on magazine advert

Today i was working on my magazine advert again i made sure that the background matched the front and inside cover of my music dvd. I then added all the information about when the dvd will be released and how it was rated my top music magazines.

Starting work on inside cover

Today i started working on the inside cover of my music dvd. I made sure that the background matches the front cover. Then i added in all the chapters of my dvd. Then i used screen shots taken from my music video and added them to the space under the dvd, creating a co-large of images of the band. This is showing the bands playful side as the images will look like they are relaxing back stage at gigs and on tour mixed in with promoshanal images mixed in.

Creating my music dvd cover

In this lesson i added all the written information and i choose a font from defont which is a web site with lots of different fonts. I choose two different fonts and they are VOL and veysel these are the fonts that i will be using for my cover/inside cover and magazine. I have done all the writing on my front cover and added all the symbolize such as copy right and bar code.

Today i worked on my dvd cover in photo-shop i have chosen my background which is two circles over lapped with lots if different colors within them. This works as my theme was drug trippy and this background really gives you that feeling. I have also started working on my writing which have to be on the cover, i have chosen to fonts that link to the look of how I want my band to be seen and also the genre that they belong to which is indie. I think i have started very successful with my cover and i need to keep that going.

This shows that i have followed my theme though the inside of the dvd cover as well. although the inside over looks more like the poster as the body have been split so that the faces and bodies are not together.

My idea for the dvd cover and magazine is to have two people a woman and a man

Editting

For this we have edited the footage so that it is in time with the song and is cutting between the close ups and the long shots

Filming close ups

After school we set up the media room as that we could film the close ups of the instruments. we did this by placing black material up and standing on a black sheet on the floor as well. We then used the fig-rig to film interesting and different angles of people playing different instruments. I then uploaded this to final cut as cut out all the footage which we did not need.

Planning filming again

We are filming in PDH this Friday after school. This time we will make sure the lighting is set up so all band members can be seen, as well as creating the right mood for our film. When filming this time we are using 4 cameras. 3 will be on tripods in different positions around the band in a semi-circle, this is so that we get lots of different angles, with steady footage. On top of this we will be having a hand held camera, which will be used to get the close ups of the band and get creative angles with the instruments.

Changing our over all video

We have decided to cut out all other footage of everything other then the band as, this footage was not good. so now we are having just the band playing like in the video for Battle for the sun also by placebo. In this video it is simply them playing. This is also a convention for the indie genre as they often have videos of just the band playing.

Cuts from our footage and why we are no longer using them

This is a shot of our band you can see that their is a reddish tint to it, as well as being really dark, this is not good because we can not see the lead singer of the band and not much of the other members, and the drummer is over lit causing them to be not seen because it is to bright.

Also the lay out of our band was not good as for most of the video the drummer was not seen because the lead singer was blocking them. When we film this we will make sure all the band members are seen, as well as the lighting being brighter and more colourful.

Final Cut

We are know longer using Imovie, and we have changed to final cut. I have never used final cut before, but you can do lots more effects to our footage then in Imovie. This could cause a problem as i do not know anything about final cut or how it works, this could delay editing as we are not sure how anything works.

Filming The Smoking scene

We filmed jack smoking outside the school, at first you could not tell it was jack as we just did extreme close ups on his cigarette and mouth, we then zoomed back to revel his face we will probably not use the zoom out as it would be more effective if we did not see who was smoking. We filmed him standing straight on and then side ways. We will cut between both to create a different effect to the everyday footage.

Even though this scene is very small and will only last about 2 seconds at the most, this scene was a little hard to film as we had to try to lesson the reflections of us in the TV, So we had to try and get rid of all the light, that could be reflecting shadows onto the TV. We managed to lesson the reflections but you can still see them. But over this blank TV screen we will import footage of insects that we have found online.

Adding Our song over the top of the footage

We found the music that we are using on a music download site, we then downloaded the music on to Emma's USB. From their we saved the music into our file on the mac. We then made a cope of the music and added this to our footage on final cut. We then made sure that we saved this so we don't lose anything. However we are having trouble finding away of playing the music on final cut, as when we try this now, we do not hear anything, we are also finding it hard to brag the music down onto the footage, but this problem will be solved soon, as we find out other things about how final cut works.

Uploading our footage and saving

We uploaded our footage, we made sure our tap was wand back to the start, so we import all of our footage. This was the first time we had used final cut, at first it was hard to work as we were not sure what to do or anything, but i asked Andy Brag for help, we told me how to import on to final cut and how to have save. Our first time trying to save we could not as their was a problem with this but the next lesson this was solved and we did the whole process again and this time we could save.

Filming the Band

We finally got around to filming in PDH. We also got the instruments and a smoke machine, however the people we originally intended to use in the band did not arrive, so we had to improvise and use mainly girls and Steven. Also, the smoke machine did not work out how we intended, as it did not stay on the floor, instead rised above the band so, the camera couldn't see some of the faces clearly. This did not create the atmosphere we were hoping for.
Also we found the song online and used this to help the band to know where they are in the song. Also it helped the lead singer to lip singing along to the song.

We filmed the song all the way though in one position, this will be used as the base for our band scenes but we will be cutting to close ups and different angles as well. We filmed these after we filmed from the front, but because the camera was hand held this caused problems, as our footage is very shaky. Although their are small bits we can use within this. But we will film the band bit again at a later date making sure that the camera is steady. also we will set up three cameras all around the band so we will get still footage from different angles, at the same time we will be using a hand held camera which will allow us closer shots and experimental angles and shots.

Filming

Yesterday we filmed the lift scene and also the street/ car scene.
I used the fig rig to do this as i wanted to show the movement of the characters, as well as moving around them to get them from different angles. I thought this would be effective. The only problem with filming was i forgot to inform one of the members of my group which meant he was left here. So i had to film on my own with the people helping/ playing the different characters.
I got most of the filming done in 45 minuets, as i was focusing on the main story boarded scenes, once we had all of these I got other footage which could also be used as part of our music video. When i got back to school i started to upload and look back over the footage, some one the camera work was a bit bad as the camera was not still but their are lots of other bits we could use. As well all are clips are going to be short and up to other things so it might not matter that much as we can use bits where the camera is not moving.

Charlotte you are missing a lot of important work here. Your analysis is not analysis. You have not embedded video that you have talked about. You must work harder on your blog.

The table is split into different catagries and for each i filled in the relavent information for each genre and music video. As you can see from the information gaverd that each genre have different codes and conventions that are shown again and again in each music video from that genre.

Analisying The Music video called suger water

In this video the screen is slit in half and one side everything was being rewinded and the other side is left to play normally. This is then switched and the side that was rewinded is now going forward and the opposite for the other side. But on this side everything is made clear and the video becomes easyer to understand as well as being able to read the title of the song on the window. I thought this was a very effective video but i do not think it would work for our song.

Three music videos that are cheap

We have looked at cheap music videos, and we saw that even with a low buget we still can have an effective music video with everything we would like in it. The music videos were from three different types of genre and they each looked very different from each other. One of the videos was montarge as it did not have a story line. Another had a story line which showed an image relating to the song, we took this idea and put it in our music video.

Analising music videos

For research we had to analisy 3 diffrent music videos for three different genres.
This helped us find the codes and conventions for each genre. EG indie music videos are offten set in wearhouses and the main fouse is the band and them playing their instroments, we took this information and put this into are own music video.

Picking the song

We origanly picked the band we are scientists and the song nobody move nobody gets hurt. But a memeber of our band did not like this song so we changed the band and song to the one we have now which is placebo nancy boy. This still fits with are genre but a little different.

Analysis of Shooting Schedule

So fair we have some problems with our filming times, as people who we asked to act have dropped out because they have other commitments. This have caused problems for use as now we have to find other actors to play all the parts. Once this problem is solved we will be able to carry on with filming. Until then we are making sure everything else is fine and that everything is set up for when we do film.

This is my mood board of research into the genre that i have chosen. I have made notes around the side to show the codes and conventions for the genre, which is indie, this will help as i can see the style of clothing wore by the bands and make sure that we keep a smiler style of clothing to fit the genre and video.

Analysis of song

This is the ideas for our music video and i have tried to think of an image and scene for each line, i think i was successful with this and every idea links to a line in the song. The music video we are thinking of is a story of a boy (nancy boy) who is sleeping with the lead singer of the band, but he ends up getting married, but still sleeps with the lead singer. It ends up being that the nancy boy and his wife are really in a drug trip, and they come out of that at the end of the song and we see them standing their in each others clothing looking at each other. We are trying to make the music video continuity and have a story that goes though out the song.

These are all our story boards for our music video, and the information that we need when filming. We have made sure that all the times, edits,movements, sound,shot type. We have tried to make sure that all the codes and conventions are met for the genre and for music videos. We have made sure all are images are in colour and are related to what we are going to be filming and the lighting we will use.

In our story board, we have drawn images of a sexual nature being implied, as you can see in shot numbers 11 to 15.

Though out the song their are themes that deal with drug taking, though out we have shown this in the story board though the editing technique, such as slow motion.

All the shots are in full colour and will have effects added over the top to make them look more surreal and drug trippy.

We have added all the timings and transitions as well as camera movement and angle.

Starting Blogging

at first it was hard to set up the blog and find out where everything is but now it is a little easier, and i have started to add videos and pics of the band and things relating to our song.

Placebo

This is the original music video and the way it feels like everything is surreal and trippy is what inspired us for are music video although ours is going to have more of a story line then montage. But the music that we had original on here will not be allowed as we are braking terms of use violation.
