Continuity editing produces " analytical" space via an establishing shot followed by smaller range (mid shot).
Audience will infer a "connecting relationship" between shots or "spatial coexistence".
Cross cutting (parallel editing) can emphasise action taking place in separate places.
Temporal
Concerns time of action and contributes to the plot's manipulation of story time- order duration and frequency.
The order of presentation of events can be manipulated changes in story plot relations which interrupted 'temporal' order.
EG flashbacks (to past events) increases story knowledge and flash-forwards.
Duration of story events within the plot can be altered via use of ellipsis.
Punctuation shot changes eg dissolve wipe and fade signals omission of time.
Empty frames eg figure of interest seen moving our of a frame, cuts to empty frame where figure moves into it
Cutaway eg a shot events in continuity only shown 1's
Tool for building tension and expectation often to show explosive action.
Graphic match= linking of shots by graphic similarity.
Graphic continuity
Graphic Discontinuity = plays with juxtaposition of placement of focus figures contrasts with colour and footage types eg super + vs and dn
Rhythmic= rhythm of the music and the same duration of clip, shorter the clip length, make the clip longer ( more relaxed).
Don't just copy and paste stuff from a powerpoint. You must show that you understand it. Write it in your own words. Copy and paste is plagiarism.
